SCHNALSTAL
The Schnals Valley – Home of Ötzi, the Iceman
The Schnals Valley is an ancient Alpine passage that for centuries has connected the Niederjoch Pass – near the discovery site of the famous Ötzi, the Iceman – with the Ötztal Valley and, further north, the trade routes leading over the Fern Pass to Augsburg.
Thanks to its remoteness and unspoiled character, the valley has preserved much of its rustic charm. Surrounded by impressive peaks, wide alpine meadows, and traditional mountain villages, visitors can discover countless places of peace and relaxation.
At the same time, modern life has found its way here as well: alongside tranquil hiking trails and historic paths, there are today many opportunities for sport, fun, and adventure – from skiing on the glacier to mountain biking and alpine climbing.
The Schnals Valley thus perfectly combines history and modernity, natural beauty and excitement – a true jewel in the heart of South Tyrol.
